The only thing that will stick with me from Biden’s presidency comes from his farewell address. Doing the one thing I didn’t think he had the balls to do, and that was be truthful about the incoming regime. “Today an oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power, and influence. That literally threatens our entire democracy.” said Biden as he addressed the country.

Oligarchy: a small group of people having control of a country, organization, or institution.

For some that may be alarming to hear, but if you’ve been paying attention for the last decade that’s exactly where we’ve been headed for a long time. Generations of people have been raised to enact the very things we’re seeing take place in politics, schools, and healthcare. All in an effort to take us back to an America they deem great, which is really just pre-civil rights. The incels, evangelicals, and billionaires have banded together in order to shape society in the image they deem appropriate. Which looks like everyone except rich, white, men being oppressed.

It’s almost scarier having someone like Biden address it because that means they know. They all know and are in on it and have sat back for the last few decades allowing it to come to fruition. While we’ve been crying, and screaming, and protesting, they’ve all been watching knowing they had the power to say something but continued not to. Ultimately, in my opinion the crux of why VP Harris was never going to win.

The cult has won and descended upon DC ready to enact their nefarious plans. Will the incel/loser team Trump has surrounded himself with like Zuckerberg, Bezos, and others be able to overcome their own narcissism in order to implement their goal of Project 2025. Or will they all be busy fighting for the spotlight over the next 4 years? Only time will tell.

It’s comical after the looming threat of losing tiktok for months, which is one of the only social media networks that was not involved with Meta (Zuckerberg) and had quickly become a way to share information and organize, that after going dark for 12 hours she reappeared only to welcome you back with a thank you note to Trump for keeping the app running in the United States. (Trump is the one that started talks of the ban *eye roll*) If any other country was threatening to take away access to an internet platform, our evangelical government would be stepping right in to fight agains those “commy” regimes. Yet, here we are in what’s supposed to be the “free” country being shown how easy it is for our government to censor and isolate us from the rest of the world. What’s even scarier is that’s exactly their plan.

The day I saw our future was when I had to come back to DC to see my orthodontist and get my braces off. This was after the George Floyd riots and when they turned 16th St NW into Black Lives Matter Plaza perpendicular to the White House. I stood at the end of BLM Plaza staring into Layfatette Square, a place I had been many times, a place I even had to visit for a school project, a place once bustling with people, now barred by 12 foot fences. The 7 acres now the front lines of the fortress they created. I feared then and know now, it was not the last time I will see a place I once could venture barred and restricted from me.

Unfortunately, most of the country doesn’t know the DC that I know. Not a native but spent my formative childhood years here, I was gifted the reality of the beautiful and diverse city. A city built by slaves that came to be known as Chocolate City and a place where Black people could thrive, expanding throughout the DMV (DC, Maryland, & Virginia). Especially into Maryland which has resulted in Charles and Prince George’s County being 2 of the wealthiest black counties in America. DC has also historically fought for and has been denied statehood. I find it unlikely that a place historically a haven for the black community and where every liberal poli sci major lives, just coincidentally has never been granted power in government. And as of 2023 there are 678,972 of us being taxed without representation. (sounds familiar??)

The moment I saw Trump attempting to charm Obama, a man he has for years questioned and tried to take down publicly, I remembered that he’s just a small man with daddy issues meant to shout into the abyss until he could only drool. On his own no real threat except for the fact that he has been surrounded and propped up by some of the most slimey people in this country. People who have been waiting for just the right charismatic puppet to indoctrinate and organize the country under their set of beliefs. I say this not to be scary or to insight panic, but to be honest. We can’t properly fight the monster we don’t know. And I take comfort in knowing no matter what happens to us, they won’t be able to outrun climate change, the earth will come for all of us.

And my goal is not to overwhelm. I’m just sharing and hoping you connect. My goal is to make the true diabolical intent digestible. To define the shape shifting monsters we face. No their goal is to overwhelm. It’s a tactic to exhaust and confuse us, cause us to become apathetic and desensitized allowing their plan to further unfold. To introduce more and more evil schemes to sheep too blind to name it. Information overload so that we can’t see everything that’s happening. A tactic often used by dictators and cult leaders to weaken their group/population into submission. Again, not to discourage, but to encourage us to be more intentional. Right now a thread¹ that sociologist Jennifer Walter posted is going around and I think it’s exactly the advice many need right now.

3/ Agenda-setting theory explains the strategy: When multiple major policies compete for attention simultaneously, it fragments public discourse. Traditional media can't keep up with the pace, leading to superficial coverage.The result? Weakened democratic oversight and reduced public engagement.

What now?

1/ Set boundaries: Pick 2-3 key issues you deeply care about and focus your attention there. You can't track everything - that's by design. Impact comes from sustained focus, not scattered awareness.

2/ Use aggregators & experts: Find trusted analysts who do the heavy lifting of synthesis. Look for those explaining patterns, not just events.

3/ Remember: Feeling overwhelmed is the point. When you recognize this, you regain some power. Take breaks. Process. This is a marathon.

4/ Practice going slow: Wait 48hrs before reacting to new policies. The urgent clouds the important. Initial reporting often misses context

5/ Build community: Share the cognitive load. Different people track different issues. Network intelligence beats individual overload.

Remember: They want you scattered. Your focus is resistance.”

All of these steps can be so helpful, like tip 1, setting boundaries. I’m staying focused on a couple of topics like climate change, education, and federal changes that directly impact DC residents. And I have friends and family (my community) that I can tap into that are focused on other targeted topics.
